Wow! There is a lot to these standards! It can be a bit intimidating. So let’s mine the Common Core Standards to make them “mine.” Each standard is separated into specific skills and concepts and you can find some activities to teach and practice the skills. We’ll start with the 6^th grade standards – what to teach in 6^th grade and how the standard flows through the other grades.

I have twenty-five years of classroom experience and nine years actively involved with curriculum consortiums. My master’s program focused on teaching middle school math to the standards through a wide range of activities and lessons. My bachelor’s degree is in math with a minor in elementary education. I taught all grades pre-k through 12 with about two-thirds of my experience in elementary education in multi-grade classrooms. After completing my master’s, I focused on 6-12^th-grade math.
